Alauda arvensis

Alas! my journey, rugged and uneven,
Through prickly moors or dusty ways must wind;
But hearing thee, or others of thy kind,
As full of gladness and as free of heaven,
I, with my fate contented, will plod on,
And hope for higher raptures, when life's day is done.

William Wordsworth

I was very lucky to get close to this Skylark on the Great Orme. It seemed just as interested in me as I was in him. Perhaps I was a bit too close to his nest?

Another species on the Red List. The Skylark’s song was such a common sound growing up in the countryside of South Yorkshire.
