Robin

Clouded with snow The cold winds blow, And shrill on leafless bough The robin with its burning breast Alone sings now.
According to a 2015 poll, the Robin (European Robin / Robin Redbreast) is the UK’s favourite bird. It is also one of the best of the smaller birds to practice my photography on.
In the UK it is quite confident around people and is drawn to gardeners turning over soil and digging up earthworms. I remember sitting eating my packed-lunch in a hide on Pennington Flash, hand-feeding a very hungry Robin with small pieces of cheddar cheese.
It might be tempting to discount the Robin when out with a camera, because they’re so common. But it’s a beautiful little bird, always capable of producing a stunning photo.
I see that all but one of my Robin photos were taken at Pennington Flash or Moore Nature Reserve.
