Blackbird

Turdus merula

The blackbird sings at
the frontier of his music.
...
a kind of pure music which
we cannot rival.

As with all black birds, it’s a challenge to get an attractive photo of a male Blackbird. Keeping the bird jet black and at the same time showing the details in the feathers is tricky. The female is easier to photograph. There’s less contrast and more details in the feathers.

I’m lucky enough to have a garden where I can set up a few perches close to feeders and close to a window. I hide behind leaf-screen and snap away. It’s a great way to practice and hone your skills.
